Dr. Han Phan, Pediatric Neurologist and Principal Investigator at Rare Disease Research (RDR), her independent clinical trial site in Atlanta, has conducted over 40 rare disease clinical trials.

She would hear the families of her study participants complain that the home health vendors send nurses with little pediatric experience, even though 80% of rare disease patients are children and adolescents.

And study home health vendors would often miss patient home visits, forcing the participant families to take time off from work, take patients out of school and travel long distances to Atlanta, instead of receiving research visits at home.

So in 2022, Dr. Phan decided to start Gooseberry Research to create a better home research nursing experience that specifically addresses the needs of rare disease patients, while also providing better nurse training and oversight for clinical trial sites and study investigators.
