Dr. Han Phan, Pediatric Neurologist and Principal Investigator at Rare Disease Research (RDR), has a network of clinical trial sites focused on rare disease trials.

She would hear the families of her study participants complain that the home health vendors send nurses with little pediatric experience, even though 80% of rare disease patients are children and adolescents.

And study home health vendors would often miss patient home visits, forcing the participant families to take time off from work, take patients out of school and travel long distances to sites, instead of receiving research visits at home.

So in 2022, Dr. Phan decided to start Gooseberry Research to create a better home research nursing experience that specifically addresses the needs of rare disease patients, while also providing expert training and oversight for better protocol adherence and data quality.
